Pick the walk for the day you have.

Look at the route, the forecast and the daylight available. Check the land manager’s current advice, including any closures. A familiar loop is a good choice when you have less time or the weather turns.

Think about the dog details.

Look beyond the distance. Find out about livestock, lead rules and the surface underfoot. Pack water, a lead and poo bags. Carry your rubbish out and follow the signs you find along the way.

Leave room to change your mind.

Turning back can be part of a good day. Keep the plan flexible and enjoy the stretch of path that suits you both. A shorter outing still counts.
